Makeup for women (2)

Makeup products were more or less creamy and colored mixes. Their drawback, known at the time, was that they obstructed skin pores and prevented sudation. There were three major types of makeup products. Dry makeup, the most harmless, presented little adherence, but stained the clothes. Liquid makeup was a mix of pigments, glycerin and perfumed liquids. Oily makeup combined ointment with powder and perfume.

Toilet vinegars were refreshing toilet waters, slightly acidulous due to the addition of natural vinegar (preferably Orléans vinegar) or of acetic ether. They were generally tainted with tincture of benzoin, myrrh or caramel, and perfumed with rose, violet, jasmine, lavender or lily of the valley.
