A new organization of the profession

As was the case for pharmacy, cosmetics were submitted to a new professional organization. The decree of April 17, 1941 created an Organization Committee of Perfumery (COP) as well as shops attached to it. This committee was to take an inventory of all the industrials and storekeepers having an activity in the field (number of employers, employees, workers, etc.). Specialized groups were created (raw materials, scented plants, production, commerce, etc.) so that they might take measures aiming to fight against the shortage of raw materials. A central committee of prices was set up so as to “ensure the unification of selling methods across the branch” and find new export opportunities. The law of July 28, 1942 organized occupational medicine; the COP created a medico-social department. The physician was responsible for examining the employees exposed to professional hazards, to conduct pre-recruitment medical examinations, to detect communicable diseases (among which tuberculosis), etc.
