The 1960s were decisive for creativity in the field of makeup. The arrival on the market of artificial pigments composed of metal oxides and mica allowed playing with the laws of optics. Pearlescence gave a new dimension
to color. The iridescent effect of the pearly pigments used in makeup was obtained via successive reflections/transmissions of light.
Makeup products started claiming skincare-like properties. 1991 saw the appearance on the market of a mascara that promoted eyelash growth. Mascara both separated the eyelashes with brushes or combs and lengthened them by
incorporating nylon microfibers. In 1997, appears a mascara literally making hair up. This mascara containing silk proteins restored shine to streaks. Due to its success, it was soon imitated.
