| The French Revolution, followed by the Napoleonic wars, favored the development of perfumery in England, a country that enjoyed an easy access to raw materials. But this success did not endure, as the English
head start ended up profiting France. Future famous perfumers crossed the Channel to study chemistry and, as early as 1820, French entrepreneurs were giving a new life to perfumery. Thanks to new preparation methods
and the invention of new machines, they progressively recaptured the market. As of 1830, the discoveries in chemistry, physics and mechanics revolutionized the whole sector. Fabrication changed and became industrial.
Over a few years, mere workshops turned into factories. |
