The compression of powders was the object of extensive research, in particular in pharmacy. In cosmetics, the 1990s saw the apparition powders that were not compacted flat any longer, but in volume, in three
dimensions.
Researchers discovered a talc powder, presented as white pearls of identical diameter. Thus in 1987, playing on the complementarity of colors, a new powder in form of pearls was created: a woman could then, in a few
strokes of a brush, customize the color and function of her makeup. The principle was easy: color imparts radiance and light. Pink to refresh the complexion, green to diminish redness, whites for a brighter complexion
and gold to add radiance to the face could thus be mixed. At the same time, a luxury brand created a glamour and playful palette: a quartet of colored powders shaped as prisms allowed women to sculpt the radiance of
their face.
