Die Terminologie der Pest in byzantinischen Quellen |
This paper consists of the collection and analysis of all Greek terms referring to true (i.e. bubonic and pneumonic) plague in Byzantine times, both from the period of the Justinianic Plague (541-750 AD) and the Black Death (1347-1453). The main conclusion of this article is that the Byzantines did not use one particular terminus technicus to designate this disease, but utilised a wide variety of names. |
